Frances had to launch a legal case against Richmond Council in order to get her daughter, Katie, the support she needed for her vision impairment in school. She won! Along the way, Frances learned a great deal about how the law works for disability and special educational needs and decided she wanted to help other parents. She started informally advising other local families, but was soon asked to become the volunteer educational advocate for Nystagmus Network. Frances undertook legally based training with IPSEA and then also decided to become a trustee of Nystagmus Network in May 2016. She relishes both roles because they enable her to provide practical help and support.
