Event registration & refreshments

The registration desk for the Nystagmus Open Day 2017 will open at 09:00. Please bring your printed tickets with you. Attendees will be able to collect their ID badges and agendas for the day, mingle and visit our exhibitor stands.

Led by Rory Cobb, a leading expert in educational support for children with vision impairment, this session will show parents how to access the support their children need to achieve their full potential.

Raising aspirations

Two parents will share their experiences of supporting a child with nystagmus through the education system; working with teachers to ensure their children achieve their potential and refusing to see nystagmus as a barrier to high educational attainment.

Frances Lilley, the Nystagmus Network Education Advocate will hold a drop in surgery to give specialist advice to attendees. Please book your time slot in advance.

Tea with a trustee

During lunch the trustees of the Nystagmus Network will be available to meet attendees and talk about their role at the charity. Each person will be able to speak with a trustee for a maximum of 5 minutes.

Eye See

Louise Connop from Eye See will be available to talk through the services her company provides, including educational workshops for schools to raise awareness of living with sight loss and the importance of regular eye health checks in children of school age.

Richard Wilson, our Chairman, will highlight the charity's biggest successes in 2016, announce our fundraisers of the year, premier our new video, Nystagmus - The Story of a Charity, lead a tribute to Steve McKay and launch a photography competition in his name.

Annual General Meeting

The Nystagmus Network AGM will take place from 14:30 to 15:00. Chairman Richard Wilson will present a report on the previous year’s activities and highlight forthcoming plans. Members will have the opportunity to exercise their right to vote, whilst non-members will be able to observe the work of the Committee of Trustees.

After the main session in the afternoon all attendees are invited to stay and network. Refreshments will be served until the Open Day officially closes at 5pm.

World Premiere – Through my Lenses

The Nystagmus Network is honoured and privileged to have been granted permission to hold the world’s first public screening of a brand new film about nystagmus. The film will be shown from 16:00 to 16:30 in the Horton Suite.

ABOUT The Venue

The Open Day venue is the Macdonald Burlington Hotel in central Birmingham. The venue is accessed easily from Birmingham New Street train station. A Nystagmus Network volunteer will be there to greet you.

Easy to find

The venue is literally over the road from Birmingham New Street station. Follow the signs for the Birlington Arcade.

Great facilities

The hotel can easily accommodate our 3 mini conference in the morning and our afternoon presentations.

Open Day FAQ

To register simply follow the “register now” button in the menu. All places for the Open Day, including the lunch time surgeries on education or benefits, can be booked through Eventbrite.

Yes! For the first time, the Nystagmus Network is offering our Open Day for free so that everyone has the opportunity to attend.

Instead of paying for your place at the Open Day, please consider making a donation. This will help us carry out the important work of supporting the nystagmus community.

The Open Day will start at 10:00 and finish at 17:00, with registration open from 09:00, when coffee will be served.. We encourage you to get there before 09:30 so you have plenty of time to register, meet up with other delegates and visit our exhibitors.

No. We have a strict limit of 200 places and the event is completely sold out. We cannot admit anyone who does not hold a ticket.
